The easiest way to get comfortable with AI is to give it small jobs where a mistake costs you nothing. Pick two or three from this list and try them this week.
At work
1. Summarize a long email thread. Paste it in and ask for the decision, the open questions, and who owes what.
2. Draft a reply you have been avoiding. Tell it the goal and the tone. Edit the result until it sounds like you.
3. Turn meeting notes into action items. Ask for a table with task, owner, and date. If a date is missing, ask it to say so rather than guess.
4. Rewrite something for a different reader. The same update can be shorter for a manager and more detailed for a teammate.
5. Prepare for a meeting. Give it the topic and who is attending and ask for three questions worth asking.
At home
6. Plan a week of dinners from what you have. List the ingredients on hand and any rules, such as 30 minutes or no dairy.
7. Build a packing or errands checklist. Describe the trip or the day and let it catch the things you would forget.
8. Compare two options before a purchase. Ask what to check beyond price, such as warranty, running costs, and return policy.
For learning
9. Get a concept explained three ways. Ask for a simple version, a plain-language version, and a detailed one, then have it quiz you.
10. Practice a conversation. Rehearse a hard talk or a language scenario and ask for gentle feedback.
How to run each one
- Give the goal and the context.
- Say what format you want.
- Read the result critically and ask for changes.
- Note what worked and save the prompt.
After a week you will have a small set of prompts you actually reuse, and a much better feel for what to hand off and what to keep.
Our free lesson on your first five delegations walks through this exercise step by step, and the prompt library has ready-made versions of each task above.
